Stay-in & Graduation Requirements

As a Concurrent Teacher Candidate you are registered both at your U of T unit (e.g. the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto Scarborough) and OISE. Student records and information for the undergraduate degree are shared among the Partner Registrars. The stay-in provisions, academic audit and probation regulations are administered by each division based on their existing policy and practice.

To meet the OISE graduation requirement for the BEd degree, a GPA of 2.5 is required on the best 15 academic FCE’s undertaken as part of a University of Toronto HBA, HBSc, BMus, or BPHE degree. Candidates will be assessed by OISE upon completion of their first degree. Any candidate falling below the 2.5 GPA threshold will not be eligible for a BEd degree until they have raised their GPA to the required level.

Convocation

The first convocation of candidates from the Concurrent Program who have successfully completed the requirements of both their undergraduate degree and their BEd degree will take place in June 2012. Concurrent Teacher Candidates who successfully complete the program will graduate with an HBA, HBSc, BMus, or BPHE as well as a BEd degree.

Graduation from the Concurrent Teacher Education Program involves two convocation ceremonies: one from the undergraduate degree program (HBA, HBSc, BMus, or BPHE), and the other from the BEd program. Once a candidate has completed the requirements for the undergraduate degree program, s/he may graduate from that program without having completed the requirements of the BEd degree. Once the requirements for the BEd degree are complete, the candidate may then graduate from the BEd program, meaning that it is possible that a candidate may attend two convocation ceremonies in two different convocation sessions.
