Program Components
The Concurrent Teacher Education Program allows exploration of issues in education early in a post-secondary career, and development as a teaching professional over a longer period of time.
In addition to the education-focused courses embedded in the undergraduate degree, Child and Adolescent Development in Education, Equity and Diversity in Education and Communication and Conflict Resolution, the Bachelor of Education components are spread over the final 3 years of the program:
Year 3
- 0.5 credit course Principles of Teaching: Legal, Ethical and Professional
- 0.5 credit course Inclusive Education: ELLs and Exceptional Learners, which includes a 15- to 20-hour field experience focused on observation/tutoring
- The e-Portfolio embedded in the BEd courses
Year 4
- 0.5 credit course Psychological Foundations of Learning
- 0.5 credit course Social Foundations of Teaching and Schooling
- 0.25 credit course Mentored Inquiry in Teaching 1 with 6 days spent in a school and the community
- 1.0 credit course Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment 1
- 0.25 credit Practicum 1 in schools, 31 days during the winter session
- The e-Portfolio embedded in the BEd courses
Year 5
- 1.0 credit course Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment 2
- 0.25 credit Practicum 2 in schools, 20 days, 5 days per week, during the month of May
- 0.25 credit course Mentored Inquiry in Teaching 2 with 6 days spent in a school and the community
- The e-Portfolio embedded in the BEd courses
