TVO and OISE/UT are working together on a range of exciting new projects
in an emergent relationship in which two of the province’s most
respected educational leaders promote lifelong education.
“We
are thrilled to be working with OISE/UT – one
of the
world’s leading centres for teaching
and research in education. Our evolving partnership
is a natural fit, given our parallel goals
of providing lifelong learning
for Ontario residents. Together we can reach
out to help – upgrade
education, skills and knowledge – in
the fast-paced information
age we live in,” says TVO's Managing
Director Nancy Chapelle.
Here are some of the joint initiatives to
be broadcast soon on TVO:
• TVO’s weekday afternoon show More
to Life presents a special live panel discussion based on OISE/UT
Institute of Child Study Professor Janette Pelletier’s recent
article in Orbit, “Schools, Families, and Communities,”
Wednesday November 10 at 1:00 pm.
More to Life Host, Mary Ito
• OISE/UT professor David Livingstone’s
Jackson lecture,
The Learning
Society: Past, Present and Future Views to be featured on an upcoming
Big Ideas (Saturdays and Sundays
at 1:00 pm). This TVO program is aimed at students, educators, and all
who are interested in intellectual pursuits (airdate TBC).
Also upcoming on Big Ideas in 2005, highlights of two upcoming OISE/UT
conferences:
• Teacher Education for the Schools We Need,
examining the implications
of current educational reforms for teacher
education. This conference
will focus on central issues in teacher
education policy, research and
practice, and will ask the question: what
will teacher education in
the future look like?
• The Future of Lifelong Learning and Work, is
an international
conference of interest to educators, researchers,
government policy-makers,
advocates, and concerned citizens. Discussion
will include: the current
significance of lifelong learning and work,
multiple literacies in
learning and work, learning needs throughout life, what makes
apprenticeships work well and social justice issues.
For both conferences, TVO will be taping (and moderating) a free-flowing
exchange of ideas during an introductory panel.
TVO
and OISE/UT will also be sharing an ongoing
article exchange in Orbit
and TVOntario Magazine to keep abreast
of each other’s activities
and continue to build community and a synergy
of ideas.
Orbit
is OISE/UT's Magazine for Schools. Upcoming issue is Schools,
Families, and Communities, being featured on More to Life,
Nov. 10.
