Research Overview Dr. Biemiller's main area at present is vocabulary and reading (language) comprehension. Having recently established the existence of a strong sequence in which children acquire specific words (Biemiller & Slonim, 2001), he is presently trying to establish a listing of some 15,000 word meanings learned by grade twelve. Dr. Biemilleris is also working on vocabulary instruction methods in primary and junior grades. In addition, he has spent the 1988-1998 period working on self direction in schools, summarized in Meichenbaum and Biemiller (1998). In applied teaching, Dr. Biemiller is interested in the ractical aspects of teaching vocabulary, especially at primary grades, where vocabulary must be introduced orally. Representative Publications
