Message from the Chair

Earl Woodruff, Chair APHD

I am proud to serve as new Chair of the Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development (APHD) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) of the University of Toronto. APHD is a research-intensive Department, boasting some of the finest, internationally-known scholars in their fields who teach in our five graduate programs: Child Study and Education, Counselling and Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Education, and School and Clinical Child Psychology.

Unique to our department are teaching intensive experiences within the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study Laboratory School and OISE’s Psychological Clinic that provide students with rich practical experiences to advance understanding and innovation. In addition, faculty research is supported by facilities within the Jackman Institute of Child Study, the Fraser Mustard Institute for Human Development, the Indigenous Education Network, and departmental laboratories.

Consequently, student engagement in faculty research labs yields very high success rates in securing external student awards and funding. This year we are looking forward to developing large-scale international projects that address the emerging issues concerning mental health, well-being and education.
