Overview of the Counselling Psychology Program

The Counselling Psychology program offers M.A. and Ph.D degrees through our Psychology Specialists stream.

Students whose plans include preparation for professional practice in psychology should note that the professional practice of psychology in Ontario is regulated by the College of Psychologists of Ontario. It is each students responsibility to ensure that their educational background meets the requirements of the College of Psychologists on Ontario. For further information contact the College of Psychologists of Ontario http://www.cpo.on.ca directly.

Our program also offers two degree programs that provide a general introduction to counselling and therapy that provides the educational requirements to become certified with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). The Community and Educational Settings stream is designed for those interested in obtaining or augmenting their counselling skills for use in a variety of organizations, institutions, and community settings. Our Guidance and Counselling stream is designed for licensed teachers who wish to practice guidance counselling in secondary schools.

Interested applicants are encouraged to consult our degree programs page, which provides valuable information to best decide which stream is best suited to career and life goals.

Our program engages in a variety of scholarly pursuits and research interests, many of which reflect the humanities-based philosophy of the discipline of counselling psychology.
