AP&HD is now accepting applications to the Early Learning Cohort, flex PhD program, for 2013/14.

Professor Charles Pascal on the Developmental Psychology
in Education Flex-PhD program

We are currently admitting another Early Learning Cohort for the September 2013/14 academic session, and we encourage prospective applicants to apply now. We are hoping to recruit high impact applicants from government, academia and the world of practice, in order to reinforce our core belief in the importance of ensuring greater reciprocity among and between the cultures of policy making, research and practice. Spread the word and please pass this on to those who might be interested in applying to join the Early Learning Cohort 2013/14. It is anticipated that this cohort will be limited to 12 students only.

Similar to the current cohort model, it will encourage peer learning in tailored Early Learning Cohort seminar courses, and in continuing opportunities for cohort meetings to discuss research and developing thesis work throughout the program. It is expected that the collective expertise of the student cohort will be a major source of learning for both students and faculty in the program.

The program arrangements and course content are tailored to meet the special interests, talents and demanding lives of the cohort we hope to attract. The standard list of requirements and course options for the DPE PhD on the AP&HD website provides an outline of the program (6 half courses-4 required and 2 electives, a thesis, and a comprehensive). For more information please click here.

Admission to the cohort is based on the same admission criteria as the PhD in Developmental Psychology and Education, flexible-time option. Applicants must demonstrate that they are active professionals engaged in activities relevant to their proposed program of study. The admission deadline is April 15, 2013.

All students from other universities holding a master’s degree which did not include a thesis must satisfy the Qualifying Research Paper (QRP) prior to registration in an OISE doctoral program. Some OISE master’s graduates must also satisfy the requirement. Most graduates of an OISE MEd program must satisfy the QRP requirement in order to establish MA equivalence. In addition, graduates of the MA in Child Study and Education, the MA(T), and the MT must satisfy the requirement because all these programs do not require a master’s thesis. Please see the Registrars Office Website for more information on the QRP.
