Community and Educational Settings
Master of Education (M.Ed.)
- A four-year University of Toronto undergraduate degree, or equivalent from a recognized university, of any background or discipline
- A standing equivalent to a University of Toronto B+ or better in the final year
- At least one year of relevant experience (see Admissions FAQs)
- A standardized test score, such as the GRE, is not required.

Doctor of Education (Ed.D.)
Undergraduate Requirements:
- A four-year University of Toronto undergraduate degree, or equivalent from a recognized university, of any background or discipline
Master's Requirements:
- An M.A. or M.Ed. degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto, or its equivalent
- A Standing equivalent to a University of Toronto B+ or better
- The applicant must have had sucessfull professional experience as a counsellor in an educational setting or in a related position
- Applicant who holds an M.Ed. or other non-thesis master's degree must submit evidence of their ability to identify a research or development problem, to design and conduct a study or project, and to report the findings or results, all in a rigorous manner. This constitutes a Qualifying Research Paper (pdf).
- A standardized test score, such as the GRE, is not required.
Guidance and Counselling
Master of Education (M.Ed.)
- A four-year University of Toronto undergraduate degree, or equivalent from a recognized university, of any background or discipline
- A standing equivalent to a University of Toronto mid-B or better in the final year
- Teacher certification
- A standardized test score, such as the GRE, is not required.
Psychology Specialists
Master of Arts (M.A.)
- A four-year University of Toronto undergraduate degree, or equivalent from a recognized university, in psychology; or a four-year undergraduate degree which contains the psychology course-load equivalent of a major or specialization (defined as six full courses in psychology, including one half-course in research methods, one half-course in statistics and at least three full courses at the third- or fourth-year level).
- A standing equivalent to a University of Toronto A- better in the final year.

Completion of one half-course at the third- or fourth-year level in eachof the following.
- Biological bases of behaviour (for instance, brain and behaviour, neuropsychology, physiological psychology, sensation and perception)
- Cognitive/affective bases of behaviour (for instance, cognition, psychology of emotions, motivation, language, perception and learning)
- Social bases of behaviour (for instance, social psychology. group processes, organizations & systems, community psychology, environmental psychology, cultural issues)

Individual behaviour (for instance, personality, abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, human devlopment, individual differences)

- It is strongly advised that students complete an undergraduate thesis in psychology, as well as a history of psychology course prior to application for this degree.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
Undergraduate Requirements:
- A four-year University of Toronto undergraduate degree, or equivalent from a recognized university, in psychology; or a four-year undergraduate degree which contains the psychology course-load equivalent of a major or specialization (defined as six full courses in psychology, including one half-course in research methods, one half-course in statistics and at least three full courses at the third- or fourth-year level).
- A standing equivalent to a University of Toronto A- better in the final year

- A University of Toronto M.A. degree with specialization in Counselling Psychology for Psychology Specialists, or its equivalent from a recognized university
- A standing equivalent to a University of Toronto A- or better.
- Candidates for the Ph.D. degree are responsible for ensuring that their degree program contains equivalent coursework and practicum hours and supervision as is required for the M.A. in Counselling Psychology for Psychology Specialists
- The completion of a research-based Master's thesis is strongly encouraged
- A standardized test score, such as the GRE, is not required.
