Research Interests
My current research involves an exploration of several aspects of the social and emotional adjustment of children and adolescents with learning disabilities and ADHD. My current research involves two major studies: 1) an investigation of the association between these children's and adolescents' awareness of and attributions for their problematic behaviour and their self-esteem, peer relations, and academic achievement; and 2) an evaluation of an intervention called Mindfulness Martial Arts that is being implemented with adolescents with learning disabilities and co-occurring disorders who are receiving treatment at a children's mental health centre. Future studies will likely examine peer and victimization, friendships and romantic relationships, parenting stress, and parent educational involvement.
Applied/Clinical Interests
My major applied interests are the clinical applications of the research described above. In addition, I have developed a systemic model for conducting psychoeducational assessments, do a limited number of assessments myself each year, and supervise students doing assessments and interventions with children and adolescents who come from various cultural communities or have English as a second language in the Counselling and Psychoeducatinal Clinic.
