Research Interests
My research interests revolve around the prediction, prevention and treatment of abuse in intimate and family relationships. At the moment, I am pursing three lines of research. One concerns the development and evaluation of group intervention programs for men who are abusive towards their children and their intimate partners. A second area of interest for me is the development of alternative methods of measuring abuse in relationships. Finally, I am working on tracing the transmission of abuse from parent-child relationships to adolescent and adult intimate relationships and on identifying patterns of resilience and vulnerability. For more information on my research and on the activities of my lab, please access the scottlab website (link above).
Applied/Clinical Interests
I spend part of my time engaged in clinical work with children and adolescents with a variety of internalizing and externalizing disorders and with adults who are victims or perpetrators of abuse. This clinical work complements my research on 'breaking the cycle' of abusive behaviour.

In this course, we examine theories of the development of child maltreatment and consider the nature and consequences of abuse and neglect on children and adolescents.
