Research Interests
I am responsible for professional training of students in the School and Clinical Child Psychology program. My scholarly interest centers on the development of a theoretical framework to explain the phenomenon of consciousness.I do not have a lab or accept students for research purposes.
Applied/Clinical Interests
I organize the placements of SCCP students in clinics and schools and I am involved in teaching knowledge that is directly relevant to applied clinical work (e.g., diagnosis, personality assessment). Prior professional experience includes work as a clinical psychologist on the inpatient ward of a general hospital and as a school psychologist in two Ontario school boards.
Current Project
At the turn of the twentieth century when objectivism was adopted as the way to establish reliable information, psychology turned away from the problem of consciousness – the subjective experience of the mind. In contrast, the material of consciousness is the material upon which the clinical method has been built. I am currently writing a book that argues that the solution to the problem of consciousness involves the integration of the clinical and scientific methods. The book, entitled Emotion and the Evolution of Consciousness: Framework for Integration, uses the narrative structure provided by evolutionary theory to build a model of conscious experience.
