Research

The faculty in AP&HD conduct research in the areas of adult clinical and counselling psychology, developmental psychology and educational psychology.  Faculty’s research in the adult clinical and counselling area have a strong focus on diversity and multiculturalism including  traditional healing, aboriginal issues, gender and sexual orientation and feminist perspectives. Other research foci include career counselling and psychotherapeutic processes.  In addition, the department houses the largest group of developmental psychologists in any department in Canada. The research topics fall into five main cross-cutting areas: cognitive and social processes in development, counselling psychology, risks and disabilities in development, contexts for well-being, and programs and policies for children. Overall, our faculty maintain a high level of research and scholarly productivity. The vast majority have research projects funded by Canadian federal granting councils (SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR) and other government funding sources (e.g. Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Canadian Council of Learning, Human Resources and Development Canada). Findings of these research projects have had a profound impact on practice and policy nationally and internationally.
