Additional Basic Qualification Courses - Admission Requirements


Primary and Junior Basic Qualification Courses

Prerequisites:
1. Must be registered with the Ontario College of Teachers or hold an interim Certificate of Qualification. Must hold an acceptable university degree or equivalent. It is no longer necessary to send in a copy of your Certificate of Qualification. We have access to this information via the OCT Public Registry.

Intermediate Basic Qualification Courses

Prerequisites:
1. Must be registered with the Ontario College of Teachers or hold an interim Certificate of Qualification. Must hold an acceptable university degree or equivalent. It is no longer necessary to send in a copy of your Certificate of Qualification. We have access to this information via the OCT Public Registry.

2. Official transcript(s) showing proof of successful completion of a minimum of two full university degree credit courses or the equivalent in the teaching subject*

*Health & Physical Education Intermediate and Dramatic Arts Intermediate are exempt from prerequisite 2, no university courses are required for admission.

*Family Studies Intermediate requires successful completion of three full university degree credit courses in the subject. Family Studies subjects include child & family, food & nutrition, clothing & textiles, housing & interior design, aging and gerontology, and management & consumer economics. Please note, clothing & textile courses can only count towards one pre-requisite course.

*Science Intermediate requires successful completion of three full university degree credit courses in the subject. One from each of the streams- Biology, Chemistry, Physics

*For Math Intermediate, prerequisite 2 can be waived upon successful completion of the Math proficiency test at OISE within the last 1 year.

*Relevant experience will be accepted in lieu of one pre-requisite course for Music Intermediate and Visual Arts Intermediate ABQs only. Evidence of one additional unversity course will still be required.

Senior Basic Qualification Courses

Prerequisites:
1. Must be registered with the Ontario College of Teachers or hold an interim Certificate of Qualification. Must hold an acceptable university degree or equivalent. It is no longer necessary to send in a copy of your Certificate of Qualification. We have access to this information via the OCT Public Registry.
 
2. Official transcript(s) showing proof of successful completion of at least a minimum of two full university degree credit courses or the equivalent in the subject*.
 
*Family Studies Senior requires successful completion of three full university degree credit courses in the subject. Family Studies subjects include child & family, food & nutrition, clothing & textiles, housing & interior design, aging and gerontology, and management & consumer economics. Please note, clothing & textile courses can only count towards one pre-requisite course.
 
*Science 
NOTE: For the first Senior division Science listed on the C of Q (General, Biology, Chemistry and Physics) candidates require successful completion of five full university degree credit courses in the subject. For Science Senior (General), candidates must have at least one course from each stream of Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). 
 
NOTE: For any subsequest Senior division Science candidates require the successful completion of three full university degreee credit courses in the subject area. For Science Senior (General) , one from each stream of Science. (Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
 
*Acceptable ABQ Social Sciences-related subjects include Anthropology, Psychology and Sociology. Law-related subjects include Economics, Geography, History, Law, Politics and Social Science. Philosophy-related subjects include Law, Philosophy, Religion, Classical Studies and certain Humanities and Women/Gender Studies courses (upon the discretion of the AQ department).
 
*French Senior requires successful completion of five full university degree credit courses in the subject in addition to successful completion of the French proficiency test at OISE within the last 3 years.
 
*Relevant experience will be accepted in lieu of one pre-requisite course for Health & Physical Education Senior, Business Studies, Dramatic Arts, Music and Visual Arts Senior ABQs only. Evidence of one additional university course will still be required.
