Developing Letter Sounds with an Engaging Website (Virtual Tour)
Stage of Literacy Development:
Stage 0: Foundation for Literacy
Stage 1: Beginning Literacy
Stage 2: Consolidation / Fluency
Primary: Letter Sounds & Phonics Secondary: Motivation for Literacy
So a great way to get students excited about literacy, excited about learning, where they're up and they're moving and they're energized is to go to this website www.starfall.com and it allows me to do a group lesson around letter and sound recognition. So, for example, if I click on ABC and I click on the letter A it allows the students and myself to learn about the letter and the sound that goes along with it. What a great way to get students excited to come on up, find the letter A, listen to the sound of the letter A. And then quite often when it's play time and the students are able to make individual choices and choose a center of interest for themselves I'll have this set up for them and they'll come up in small groups of two to three people and they'll be able to explore and have fun and choose from multiple activities on Starfall.
The goal of Starfall: Developing Letter Sounds with and Engaging Website (Virtual Tour) is to help students develop an understanding of the relationship between spoken sounds and written letters.
- Introduce the website, Starfall, with a whole-group lesson using the SMART Board.
- Integrating technology into the classroom is an engaging approach to teaching literacy.
- The SMART Board is an interactive whiteboard that integrates computer technology with reading and writing.
