We use the daily message as an opportunity to, again, read and I'll address different teaching points through the daily message. So in this case we're working on reviewing our Pop Corn words we've already learned but also the ending sounds. So I would read this message to the children with the mistakes. "Good morning friend" and I know they would find that silly, how can we correct that mistake that the teacher has made? So the child would come up and find that ending phoneme that would correct the word.
The goal of Morning Messages: Developing Concepts of Print, Word Recognition and Rhyming (Virtual Tour) is to demonstrate the features of written language, including how text is organized, as well as teach common spelling patterns and word families.
- High frequency words are the words that appear most often in printed material. Direct students' attention to these words during read-alouds and shared readings.
- Discuss the importance of recognizing high frequency words by sight and the direct impact of this recognition to reading fluency.
