Elizabeth Campbell, Associate Chair, Graduate Studies

Elizabeth Campbell teaches in both the Master of Teaching Program (pre-service teacher education) and the graduate Curriculum/Teacher Development Program, specializing in the ethical dimensions of teaching. Her doctoral course is entitled Professional Ethics of Teaching and Schooling and her MT courses include classes in qualitative research methodology, ethics, educational philosophy, and curriculum theory. She is a member of the Centre for Teacher Development at OISE/UT and the cross-disciplinary Centre for Ethics at the University of Toronto.
Elizabeth's research and publications focus on the moral and ethical nature of teaching and education more broadly. Her recent book, The Ethical Teacher, was published in 2003 by the Open University Press McGraw-Hill. She was the principal investigator of a SSHRC funded project, The moral and ethical basis of teachers’ interaction with students.
She is a recipient of the outstanding Teacher of the Year Award, Faculty of Education, University of Toronto, 1993. CASEA Doctoral Dissertation Award, 1993 (Canadian Society for the Study of Educational Administration).
Elizabeth Campbell is currently engaged in another SSHRC-funded research project, entitled “The cultivation of ethical knowledge in teaching” It is investigating how ethical knowledge is cultivated in novice teachers and focuses on teacher education programs throughout North America.
