Elizabeth Smyth, Professor

Elizabeth Smyth is a Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning. Elizabeth is cross-appointed to the Department of Theory and Policy Studies. Her involvement in initial and graduate education and research focuses on the changing context of education and classroom practice, historical and contemporary studies of the impact of gender, the history of teachers and the education of highly able learners.
In the Initial Teacher Education program, Elizabeth offers a cross-listed related studies course entitled The History of Education in Canada.
Research Interests:
• curriculum and teachers' lives; curriculum development for gifted learners; history of Canadian education including education for the professions, teacher education and higher education; gender issues and education; pedagogy and practice of online learning; communities of teachers; the intersection of education and religion
