Academic History Ph.D. Stanford University Education (Comparative/International) 1991 M.A. University of Iowa Education (Social Studies) 1987 B.A. Oberlin College Sociology (& Peace Education) 1979 Research Overview Dr. Kathy Bickmore is a Professor with the Department of Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning, where she focuses on issues in elementary and secondary education. Her primary research interests include curriculum and school practice in conflict education, peace building, democratization, and citizenship. Within these areas, she is pursues international comparative perspectives and questions of gender/sexuality, ethnocultural equity, and students' opportunities to discuss and act upon conflictual issues. Dr. Bickmore is active with a number of organizations, including the Peace Education Commission of International Peace Research Association and the Association for Conflict Resolution, including time as President of the Peace Education Special Interest Group of American Educational Research Association and the Citizenship Education Research Network of the Canadian Society for Studies in Education. She has served on a number of editorial boards for research journals such as Conflict Resolution Quarterly, the Journal of Peace Education, and Theory and Research in Social Education, and has also contributed to a number of books and handbooks about peace and conflict, social studies, and democratic citizenship education.
