University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, 1984 B.A. (Honours English), Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, 1982 Research Overview Dr. Elizabeth Campbell is an Associate Professor with the Department of Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning as well the Associate chair of Graduate Studies at OISE. She is a member of the Centre for Teacher Development at OISE/UT and the cross-disciplinary Centre for Ethics at the University of Toronto. Her research and publications focus on the moral and ethical nature of teaching and education, including such topics as professional ethics in education, teachers' professional knowledge, moral and ethical dimensions of schools, and teacher education. In 2003, Dr. Campbell authored an influential book titled The Ethical Teacher which has recently translated into Chinese. She has also contributed chapters to a number of other books on professional ethics in education, and has been an editor for the journal Curriculum Inquiry. Dr. Campbell was the principal investigator of an important SSHRC funded project entitled The Moral and Ethical Basis of Teachers’ Interaction with Students. She's currently engaged in another SSHRC-funded research project, entitled “The cultivation of ethical knowledge in teaching” It is investigating how ethical knowledge is cultivated in novice teachers and focuses on teacher education programs throughout North America. She is a member of the Centre for Ethics at the University of Toronto and the Centre for Teacher Development at OISE.
