Dame Nita Barrow Distinguished Visitorship (DNB)
The CWSE's 2012 Dame Nita Barrow Distinguished Visitor was Patricia Nyaundi, Chief Executive Officer of the Kenyan Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission.
The 2012 Dame Nita Barrows course was:
AEC1132 Fall 2012
Truth Commissions and Gender Justice: The Case of the Kenyan Truth Commission
Instructor: Patricia Nyaundi
Chief Executive Officer
Kenyan Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission
The course shall contribute to the ongoing debate on the efficacy of Truth Commissions as mechanisms of Transitional Justice. Women bear the brunt of gross violations and yet are excluded from processes that aim to design ways to correct these injustices, these processes are also defined using patriarchal understandings of causes of conflict and their consequences. The course shall focus on the Kenyan Truth Commission both in design and process to analyse opportunities for transformative justice offered by Truth Commissions.
