Testimonials From Previous Work Study Students at the CWSE
"My experience at the CWSE was one of the most interesting and rewarding aspects of studying at OISE. I started as a Work-Study student in September of 2009 as a Fundraising Assistant with the CWSE's Women’s Human Rights Education Institutes (WHRI). My involvement with the CWSE continued into the next year when I attained a graduate assistantship and was able to work as Program Development Assistant. Most recently I was the Event Coordinator for the Dame Nita Barrow Lecture (DNB) in February of 2011.
Working at the CWSE allowed me to be involved in a community that shared my values around feminism, women’s rights, education, and social justice. It allowed me to explore and grow as a student and a feminist.
I have now graduated from OISE with a M.Ed. and am working at the Ontario Council for International Cooperation as the Inter-Council Network National Coordinator. This opportunity has come as a direct result of the experience, knowledge, and relationships that I acquired through my work at the CWSE. Although I no longer work at the CWSE, I hope to maintain the relationships that I developed during my time there and continue to be involved with the interesting programming and supportive feminist community."

"This year [2010-11] I had the pleasure of holding a work study position at the Centre for Women Studies in Education (CWSE), assisting both the Centre's Coordinator, Jamie Ryckman, and the Executive Director of the Women's Human's Rights Institute, Angela Lytle.
I became deeply engaged in my role and found that my responsibilities varied on a day-to-day basis, which gave me the opportunity to observe, participate in, and effect anything from administrative tasks to the Centre's programming. In the CWSE I found a caring and open-minded community of activists, academics, and community members who became not only my colleagues but also my friends.
I was astounded at how well my work at the Centre complimented my own Masters research, and found the people and the Centre to be invaluable resources. Thanks to the CWSE I became a part of a beautiful community of caring and active women engaged in an array of valuable feminist work.
My experience at the CWSE also gave me the credibility and hire-ability that a Masters alone cannot do; at the end of my mandate at CWSE I was hired by Oxfam Quebec to work in the Democratic Republic of Congo as Gender Justice Adviser. I continue on in the same spirit as CWSE taking with me the wonderful memories, resources and tools.
Thanks to everyone!"
