Spirit Horse is Roseneath Theatre's powerful and moving adventure of two First Nations children, which toured Ontario schools in Fall of 2010.

Solo: A Boy's Journey

Inspired by a number of true stories in Jerry Brodey's life and his work with adolescents, Solo: A Boy's Journey is a tale about two discouraged thirteen year-old boys, native and non-native, who come together under a troubling circumstance during a rite of passage journey in Canada's north. The journey leads the boys away from their childhood towards manhood in a wilderness that is both frightening and life changing.

Prologue to the Performing Arts

From the Website: Prologue is a charitable, not for profit arts education organization dedicated to enriching the lives of young people by connecting them to high quality live performing arts.

The Métis Fiddler Quartet

is a performing arts group that specializes in performing and interpreting Canadian Métis and Native old-style fiddle music. This bilingual French/English group continues to discover and present the old-style fiddle tunes passed down by elders from across Canada. The Métis Fiddler Quartet recognizes the importance of sharing and collaborating with this unique style of fiddle music in order to pass the traditions on to future generations. (Form the website)

Native Earth Performing Arts

is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the creating, developing and producing of professional artistic expression of the Aboriginal experience in Canada.

Through stage productions (theatre, dance and multi-disciplinary), new script development, apprenticeships and internships, Native Earth seeks to fulfill a community of artistic visions. It is a vision that is inclusive and reflective of the artistic directions of members of the Aboriginal community who actively participate in the arts.

Red Sky

This contemporary Indigenous performance company offers arts development revitalization projects, educational outreach initiatives, mentoring initiatives, artistic and community development through dialogue, lecture presentations, company classes, workshops, and open rehearsals.

4th Line Theatre

From the website: 4th Line Theatre is committed to the development and presentation of original Canadian theatre at the Winslow Farm, the family farm of Founding Artistic Director Robert Winslow, in Millbrook, Ontario.  Idyllic, rural, and quintessentially Canadian, 4th Line Theatre presents Canadian plays, written by and about Canadians, from small town stories to broad national sagas.  The plays presented at 4th Line Theatre explore regional themes, history, and heritage in a politically responsible and culturally sensitive manner.  Under Winslow’s artistic direction, a unique, collaborative creative process encourages innovation and experimentation, resulting in productions that entertain and educate.  The award-winning company is a unique staple in the Canadian summer theatre circuit, presenting plays rooted in local history and inspired by the rural landscape upon which they are staged. 

Centre for Indigenous Theatre

From the website: In 1974, the late James Buller founded Native Theatre School. This original four-week program was created based on his belief that with a viable Aboriginal theatre school in place, Aboriginal actors, playwrights and directors would have a forum for exploration and exchange, and that the results of this exchange would have a measurable impact on the Aboriginal Theatre community.

 
Today, the Centre for Indigenous Theatre has expanded, offering a three year full-time program, as well as two Summer Programs in Peterborough, Ontario and Lethbridge, Alberta. The Centre embraces the spirit, energy and inspiration derived from the culture, values and traditions of Indigenous people. From these roots, we seek to elaborate a contemporary Indigenous performance culture through training and professional development opportunities for emerging and established Native theatre artists.
 
The purpose of the program is to develop contemporary performance skills from a distinctively Indigenous cultural foundation. The curriculum integrates training in acting, voice and movement with Indigenous cultural classes in dance, song and oral history. It also offers a professional development component, which allows students and working actors to train together, adding the all important mentoring component to the curriculum. To gain practical performance experience, students are given the opportunity to publicly perform through community showcase events, story creation projects and the year-end production which features senior students.

From the website: The First Peoples Performance Space (with seating for 100) is an exciting venue in which the audience can participate in an intimate relationship with the artists and performers. Unlike traditional Western theatre, the space will be used for ceremony, as a vessel to pour forth and nurture Aboriginal oral tradition, language and knowledge. The space will be the summer home of the Centre for Indigenous Theatre in Toronto.

Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People

From the website: At the centre of YPT’s artistic policy is a desire to have a positive and lasting impact on the emotional, social, and intellectual development of young people in order for them to grow into the unique and wonderful people they were born to be. At YPT we also believe that the more challenging, the more hostile, the more ‘isolated within-the-crowd’ our world becomes, the more we need art to help us interpret the universe, connect with each other, and imagine a better future. If adults need this, kids need it more. The aesthetic vision for YPT is one where three streams of performance are given importance. Firstly, the classics of children’s literature from around the world offer children membership in an ancient childhood, renewing in them the images and inspirations of our own lives as children. Secondly, contemporary works and vigorous new Canadian play development ensure continuing relevance to the real lives of kids. Finally, the Drama School creates theatre for youth by youth.
