Migration Information for OISE's Technical Changes
ALL OISEnet/FirstClass users must complete their migration by August 2010.
OISE is currently in the process of implementing a new strategy for email, online learning and other technology-based communication tools. See how this affects you...
FirstClass/OISEnet will no longer be available for email, conference communication or web hosting as of August 2010. After August 2010, OISEnet data will remain available in a limited capacity (only to extract resources via the FirstClass client). All faculty and staff can keep their current @oise.utoronto.ca email address after the migration. Please see our FAQ for further details..
We enourage all OISE users to migrate their activities off of the FirstClass server at their earliest convenience, and please do not wait until the last minute. We recommend that all remaining users complete their migration tasks by end of April 2010.
All users will need an active UTORid username and password to access the new systems.
Email Migration (Activate your email on the new UTOR system)
| Who? | Many Faculty, Staff and Graduate Students already completed their migration in 2009, while others are now setting up their new accounts. |
| ITE instructors can migrate their email accounts at any time while continuing to use the FirstClass system for the remaining academic conferences. | |
| Graduate Students are now expected to use their @utoronto.ca UTORmail account for email activities. | |
| What? | Migration of OISENet email services to UTORexchange (Faculty & Staff) or UTORmail (Students). |
| How? | Consult our Email Migration section for detailed step-by-step instructions. |
Teaching & Learning (Course Conferences / Academic Learning Systems)
| Who? | Faculty using FirstClass/OISENet or WebKF for your courses. |
| Students will now access their courses through the Blackboard Portal. | |
| What? | All Faculty and Students will need to have a valid UTORid username and password to access Blackboard. |
| If you are an OISE Faculty member using First Class for your courses, you will need to transfer your course information into the Blackboard system. You do not need to request that your course be setup in Blackboard, all courses are automatically created. | |
| How? | Faculty/Instructors - please consult our Teaching & Learning section for transfer instructions. |
Conference Migration (Research, Non-Academic or Administrative Conferences)
| Who? | Staff or Faculty who has been using FirstClass Conferences for non-teaching or administrative tasks. |
| What? | You can no longer use FirstClass for communication of any kind (email, conferences, web site), and an alternative method must be used. |
| How? | The Conferences section will provide a list of alternative resources available. |
File Sharing & Storage (File Sharing and Management with OISE HomeSpace)
| Who? | Staff or Faculty who has been using FirstClass Conferences for File Sharing, File Storage and File Management. |
| What? | You can no longer use FirstClass for file communication, and an alternative method must be used. |
| How? | Please consult our File Sharing & Storage support section. |
