Email Migration - Move FirstClass Data (Optional)

This process will move your messages from your FirstClass/OISEnet account onto a file that is saved on your local computer.  You can access this file that contains your messages using Outlook (outlook data file - .pst) or Entourage ("messages on this computer").  It will remove the messages from the FirstClass (OISEnet) server and save them to your hard drive.  This process could take anywhere from 15 minutes if you have a standard size mailbox, to over an hour depending on how many sub-folders you may have.

Access to your FirstClass messages via this process is only available while on-campus in the OISE building.

Move Message for use in Outlook (PC/Windows)

Move Messages for use in Entourage (Apple/Mac)

Windows/PC users: Configure Outlook to connect to your OISEnet account:

Outlook - Tools, Account Settings, "New..."

1)      Add new E-mail Account – keep the default setting:

a.      Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP

b.      Next >

2)      At the bottom,  select and check box:

a.      Manually configure server settings or additional server types

b.      Next >

3)      Keep the default setting:

a.      Internet E-mail

b.      Next >

4)      Internet E-mail Settings – fill in all of the fields:

a.      Your Name:

b.      E-mail Address:  (username@oise.utoronto.ca)

c.       Account Type:  (leave as the default - POP3 )

d.      Incoming mail server:  FCIS.OISE.UTORONTO.CA

e.      Outgoing mail server:  FCIS.OISE.UTORONTO.CA

f.       Username: (this field should auto-populate with your FirstClass username)

g.      Password

h.    Click the "Test Account Settings..." button to make sure status is complete

i.       Next >

Your configuration settings should look something like this:

5)      Congratulations!

Once you have configured your account to connect via POP, initiate a connection to the FCIS mail server (Click the Send/Receive button in Outlook). 

This will start downloading all of the received mail contained in your FirstClass mailbox into your Outlook Inbox.  It will not download any sent messages, nor will it download any of the sub-folders you may have had in your FirstClass mailbox.

If you have any messages within sub-folders that you would like to move as well,

Once you have moved all your messages, and only have Sent Items remaining,
click here to Save Sent Items.

Apple/MAC users: Configure Entourage to connect to your OISEnet account:

Open Entourage - click on "Tools", then "Accounts...", and then the "New" button.

1) Type in your OISE email address, and click the "Configure Account Manually" button.

2) The Edit Account" box should appear.  Please complete the information:

Account name: (Call this "OISEnet maibox", or something similar to this)

Name: (Your full name)

E-mail Address:  (username@oise.utoronto.ca)

Account ID:  (OISEnet username)

POP server: FCIS.OISE.UTORONTO.CA

Password:

SMTP server: FCIS.OISE.UTORONTO.CA

Click the "OK button.

3)  Click the "Send / Receive" button in Entourage

This will start downloading all of the received mail contained in your FirstClass mailbox to the Inbox labeled "On My Computer" in Entourage.  It will not download any sent messages, nor will it download any of sub-folders you may have had in your FirstClass mailbox.

If you have any messages within sub-folders that you would like to move as well,

Once you have moved all your messages, and only have Sent Items remaining,
click here to Save Sent Items.
