Faculty & Staff E-mail Migration
Current faculty/staff and required by all
Email migration has been an on-going process for the past 2 years.
As of August 1st 2010, some functions of the Email Migration may no longer be available.
Please review the main Migration Headquarters for the most up to date information after the August deadline.
- Switch to the new e-mail system (UTORexchange)
- Keep your same e-mail address (@oise.utoronto.ca)
- Move your old mail, address book and contacts if you wish
The step-by-step instructions are designed to be self-serve and can be completed at your own pace. You do not need to go through the entire process at once. Take your time if you wish - many users will setup their new e-mail account (steps 1 & 2) and take a few weeks to learn the new system before moving on to step 3.
-
Migrate your UTORmail account to UTORexchange
- This step is very easy. It consists of logging into your UTORid account and clicking the "migrate" button. If you already know your UTORid username & password, this process should only take a few minutes.
- This step will create your mailbox account on the new UTORexchange server.
-
Install and Configure an E-mail Client
-
Involves installing new e-mail software, or configuring the e-mail program already installed on your computer. For Windows/PC users this will be Outlook 2007, for Apple/MAC users this will be Entourage 2008.
-
The new e-mail client software is the best method of accessing your new UTORexchange account.
-
-
Redirect your OISENet E-mail Address
-
Requires you to log into your FirstClass account and create a "Rule" for your mailbox. This will ensure that all e-mails addressed to your @oise.utoronto.ca address will be delivered to your new mailbox.
-
Your @oise.utoronto.ca e-mail address will remain valid, and you do not need to change it, nor will you lose any messages sent to your OISE address. You will receive new messages in Outlook (Entourage), rather than FirstClass.
-
-
Move Data from your FirstClass Account (optional)
-
The first 3 steps listed above are required to complete the e-mail migration. This step #4 is optional for OISENet users.
-
For some users, the above setup is a completely acceptable and comfortable way of doing business, and no other changes/modifications are required. For others, it may be desired to bring some of the information currently held in their FirstClass (OISENet) account over to the new system.
-
Many users may wish to move their e-mail messages from FirstClass to the new Outlook (Entourage), as well as copy their personal contacts or address book into the new system. Options that are available are:
- Move your messages from FirstClass to Outlook
- Copy a few messages from FirstClass to Outlook
- Copy your FirstClass contacts into Outlook
- Save your FirstClass Messages as computer text files.
-
-
Learn about your new e-mail program (optional)
-
If you are new to using Outlook 2007 (PC) or Entourage 2008 (Mac), we have a collection of helpful resources and tip sheets to help you learn about your new e-mail program.
-
Tip:
Your UTORid e-mail (UTORmail) address is typically FirstName.LastName@utoronto.ca
Your OISEnet e-mail (FirstClass) is typically FirstInitialLastName@OISE.utoronto.ca
Throughout this process, you will be presented with a series of "checks" at certain points that are required to proceed.
If you encounter an error or problem during the process, look for the RED X for tips on how to resolve the problem.
A summary of what you can do after completing the migration process:
-
Use Outlook (PC) or Entourage (Mac) to receive all new messages sent to your @oise e-mail address and your @utoronto.ca email.
-
Both PC and MAC users will use Outlook Web Access for Internet-based calendar and e-mail access.
-
You can log in to FirstClass to view and/or forward any old messages you still require (please consult our FAQ for more information).
If you are ready to begin, please proceed to step #1. Migrate your UTORmail account to UTORexchange
