Part I: APA Citations and References
           Build your knowledge and confidence

This is an essential workshop—your need for this learning starts in your first program course.

Learn how to cite your published sources correctly in the text of your documents.  The variations of correct attribution and the rules that govern it are covered in detail.

Learn how to construct correct APA references—which is not as difficult as you may think.  This primer teaches you what you’ll need to know to be independent of often-wrong online resources.

The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Sixth Edition, 2010, is the current version of this style guide.

Part II:  Formatting and Styles
Minimize your effort and maximize your results

Master the techniques that make it easy to create your documents.  Learn to use MSWord styles and you are guaranteed a consistently correct presentation of the repeating elements in your material—essential knowledge for managing long documents such as your dissertation or thesis.  These skills will help you to stay calm when making last-minute changes before due dates.

Topics include APA headings for chapter titles, sections and subsections within chapters, table headings, figure captions, and appendix titles. From the application of these styles, you will learn how to create an automatic Table of Contents, as well as other lists, as needed. Familiarity with APA heading styles is recommended.

Become a more expert MSWord user with tips on features such as Review and Track Changes, Find and Replace, and handy keyboard shortcuts.

For those working on their thesis or dissertation, learning how to assemble your document according to the OISE Guidelines for Theses and Doctoral Final Oral Exams will be covered, including how to achieve the guideline’s unique page numbering.
