Supporting your course with online tools:
Getting started with the UofT Blackboard Portal

OISE Faculty, teaching assistants and course support staff are invited to participate in one of our workshops to learn more about supporting a course with online tools.   All courses at OISE automatically come with a UofT Blackboard Portal environment to supplement your course resources and assist in communication and management of your course.  This quick 1 hour workshop is designed for people who are new to the Blackboard environment or would like a refresher on how to get up and running.  Topics include: how to access and navigate in Blackboard; how to view your class list and communicate with your students via email and making Announcements, and how to add your own course files/resources that you wish to share with your students.  You may also be introduced to tools that allow for student engagement and online discussion within your course.

Please register early as spaces are limited.

Having online discussions in your course:
Effective tools and methods to stimulate student discussions online

OISE Faculty, teaching assistants and course support staff are invited to participate in this workshop to learn more about engaging students using online discussion tools.  Blackboard and other tools like Connect to Create (C2C) allow students in a face-to-face course to continue with a discussion topic outside of class time.  You can also use discussion tools for assignment activities, group work or include them as part of your assessment.  This workshop will show you different tools that are available and strategies for managing online discussions.  Sign up for this workshop if you would like to learn more about online discussion tools for your course.

Please register early as spaces are limited.

Using Wiki pages in your course:
What they are and how to use them in Blackboard

OISE Faculty, assistants and course support staff are invited to participate in this workshop to discover the options and features of incorporating a Wiki tool in their Blackboard course.  A basic Wiki is an online document in which multiple users can edit to produce a final product.  Blackboard has a built-in Wiki page builder tool which allows faculty to create Wiki pages to work on individual, group and class projects.  Still not sure what a Wiki does or how it could be used in your course?  Register in this workshop to find out more and have your questions answered.

Collecting assignments online:
Receive assignments from students and manage grades using Blackboard

OISE Faculty, assistants and course support staff are invited to participate in this workshop on collecting assignments from students in your course.  Many faculty collect assignments in electronic format from students like word documents or other files like powerpoint presentations or PDF files.  Receiving these files as an email attachment may result in a full inbox.  Blackboard can assist by collecting the assignments for you, and storing them in one central location.  Feedback and grade information on the Blackboard system is confidential between the student and instructor.  Register in this workshop to learn this method and other ways for your students to digitally hand-in assignments.

Please register early as spaces are limited.
