Faculty - Getting a UTORid

UTORid username and password, TCard and Email address.

The three most important things a new staff member will need are a UTORid, a TCard, and an email address.

Your UTORid - Computer/Login Account gives you access to:

  • Your '@utoronto.ca' email address
  • Blackboard Portal - the online home for students and groups
  • Computer access - OISE computer labs & UofT Libraries
  • Wireless Internet access on campus

Setting up an Email Account

When you are activating your UTORid, you will automatically be asked to set up an e-mail address (firstname.lastname@utoronto.ca).

Your Email username and password is the same as your UTORid username and password.

How do I use Outlook (or Entourage) to Access my Email?

Instructions for setting your email program up can be found on the Information Commons Help Desk web site.

Getting your UTORid setup - for Appointed Faculty

New Faculty will receive a “Getting on-line at UofT” letter from your department. This letter contains your UTORid username and a Secret Activation Key.  Current staff who do not have a UTORid can request the “Getting on-line at UofT” letter from your department or HR.

To activate your UTORid account:

But what if I am a Visiting, Seconded or Contract Faculty or Instructor?

Get your TCard first!

Visiting, Seconded or Contract Instructors will first need to obtain a TCard before getting a UTORid. Instructors who are not paid directly by the university will need to get a TCard authorization letter from their departmental business officer. The authorization letter should be printed on U of T departmental letterhead and contain these details:

  • Full name of TCard applicant
  • Position title
  • Birth date
  • Work address and telephone number
  • End date of your contract/appointment
  • Library status desired (i.e.: staff or faculty)
  • That the applicant will not be paid through HRIS
  • Name of departmental contact person

To get your TCard, bring photo identification and the authorization letter to the Reader Registration position on the Loan Services desk of Robarts Library (located at the corner of St. George and Harbord) to have the letter vetted. The applicant will then be sent to the TCard Office located in Room 2054A on the second floor of Robarts to have their card issued. For TCard Office hours visit the TCard web site.

Please Note: Additional Qualification instructors who are off-campus should email Ruth Milne, Manager of Programs and Services – Continuing Education OISE, for assistance in obtaining a UTORid.

Getting your TCard - for Appointed Faculty

Your TCard is a photo ID smartcard which provides identification for university services, facility access and also acts as your Library Card.

To get your TCard, go to the TCard Office located in Room 2054A on the second floor of Robarts Library at the corner of St. George and Harbord. For TCard Office hours and required identification documentation, visit the TCard web site.

Appointed faculty should remember to bring their "Getting on-line at U of T” document to the TCard office to receive their TCard.

Important Points to Remember About Your UTORid Account

Setting up your Email Account (UTORmail @utoronto.ca)

When you are activating your UTORid, you will automatically be asked to set up a UTORmail e-mail address (firstname.lastname@utoronto.ca).

Your Email username and password is the same as your UTORid username and password.

It is recommended that OISE Faculty upgrade their UTORmail email account to the UTORexchange server.  This process takes a few minutes to complete via the UTORexchange migration page.

The UTORexchange account will provide advanced communication features and calendar organization.  Please consult the Faculty & Staff Email section for more information.

Forgotten UTORid Passwords

For security reasons, faculty UTORid passwords can only be reset by visiting the Information Commons Help Desk in Robarts Library. Please remember to bring photo identification.
