Title: "Other" Famous Mathematicians
Brainstorm names of famous mathematicians with students.
Show pictures of famous mathematicians, such as Archimedes, Pythagoras, Galileo, Leonardo da Vinci, Copernicus, Newton, Venn, Boole, De Morgan, Einstein.
Prompt students to find a pattern among these people.
Organize a group activity where students will prepare a presentation about a famous Mathematician of their choice. This person should either be a female, non-white or from outside Europe. They could also work with a non-European civilization that made a contribution in Mathematics.
Students could use people/peoples of their own culture.
