About the Graduate Students' Association

Welcome to the OISE Graduate Students' Association (GSA) website! The GSA is the formal representative of graduate students at OISE. It is the largest course union within University of Toronto's (U of T) Graduate Students' Union (GSU), which is the central student union for all graduate students at U of T.

What we do

The GSA represents and advocates for graduate student interests at OISE. Coordinating Departmental Student Associations (DSA), as well as promoting links between graduate students and the institute's administration is an important part of our mandate. The GSA is also a formal link to the GSU. A part of this communication includes our four seats at GSU Council meetings, where the GSA voices OISE graduate student concerns, such as, funding, academic and equity issues. We also provide support and service to individual students. If you have any questions or concerns about "grad" student life, the GSA is here to support you! In person, by phone, by e-mail - whatever suits you best. (And if we cannot help you directly, we will guide you to someone who can!)

How we are organized

The GSA's Council is its ultimate decision-making authority and has charge over its general affairs. The Council is composed of an elected Executive and representatives from each of the departments, the International Students' Association (ISA), the Graduate Assistants and (CUPE 3907). Council meetings are held on a monthly basis. All students are welcome to attend and participate because all graduate students at OISE are automatic members of the GSA. Meeting minutes are currently available in the GSA Office (Room 8-105). The GSA's Executive runs Council meetings, as well as all aspects of business within the GSA. In conjunction with our constitution, the GSA Executive is empowered to act in place of, and coordinate, Council within matters of routine business and project delegation.

Get Involved!

The advocacy and other work carried out by the GSA cannot happen without the involvement of its members - of which we are grateful for any and all help and support! If you want to become more active within the OISE community, come out to one of our Council meetings, drop by the GSA office during office hours, or send us an email. Get involved, you will be amazed how little a contribution you need to make to create a big difference at OISE. The GSA looks forward to meeting you!
