The Department of Humanities, Social Sciences & Social Justice Education (HSSSJE), brings together two dynamic programs formerly housed in the departments of History & Philosophy of Education (underTheory & Policy Studies in Education) and Sociology in Education, formerly housed Sociology & Equity Studies in Education (SESE).
This new HSSSJE department and program is unique as it represents the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary humanities and social sciences in education. It allow for synergies across, and amongst disciplines and subfields, to provide students with an excellent interdisciplinary humanities and social sciences education. It is conceived as a multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary program that is concerned with forms of social relations as they appear in specific historical, cultural, and political contexts. The program focuses on identifying new relationships and making connections by asking significant questions within and across disciplines. The program, following the traditions in humanities and social sciences, addresses both theoretical and empirical problems regarding in/equity in educational spaces broadly conceived.
HSSSJE offers the following graduate degree programs:
- MA (Master of Arts) - full and part time
- MEd (Master of Education) - full and part time
- EdD (Doctor of Education) - full and part time
- PhD (Doctor of Philosophy)- full and flex time
