Afterschool Daycare

The Institute of Child Study (ICS) After School Daycare is a childcare centre located at the laboratory school at 45 Walmer Road. The ICS After School Daycare is licensed with the Ministry of Community and Social Services under the Day Nurseries Act.

Philosophy

At the ICS After School Daycare, we strive to create a safe, secure, loving environment in which children feel comfortable exploring their interests and expressing themselves, and to provide some of the guidance each child needs to develop a healthy sense of self in a larger social setting outside the home.

We recognize the individuality of each child in the centre - each with a distinct personality, unique qualifications and aptitudes and individual needs. We strive to support each child's unique pattern of development and to identify and stimulate particular interests and talents. Creative self-expression is always valued and encouraged in art and play activities.

Hours of Operation

• The Daycare offers morning care from 8:00 am to 8:45 am.
• The Daycare provides care for children who attend the Nursery School and require care from 11:45 am onward. Families have the option of full-afternoon care (11:45am-6:00pm) or half-day program (11:45am-3:15pm). Nursery children need to bring their own lunches, and resting mats are provided from the Daycare.
• There is also after school daycare for children from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 who need daily or occasional care from 3:00pm-6:00pm.

Staffing

The teachers in the ICS After School Daycare each have a qualified Early Childhood Education (ECE) diploma and also have Recreational Leadership for the older children. The staff have a wide range of experience that make the program exciting and fun.

Operations

The ICS After School Daycare is a non-profit corporation operated by a Board of Directors and a Daycare Supervisor. The Board of Directors, in conjunction with the Supervisor, is responsible for the smooth running of the daycare. They are responsible for the hiring and termination of staff, managing finances, regulating fee structure, implementing policy, and giving direction for future goals for the centre. Decisions governing the day-to-day operation of the centre and programming are made by the Supervisor.
