Research and the MA Program

Students enrolled in the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study's 2-year Master of Arts in Child Study and Education (MA CSE) are encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities to participate in ongoing research projects in the Dr. R.G.N. Laidlaw Centre.

Students who are hired as part-time research assistants on some of our studies have the chance to work with Jackman ICS faculty as well as collaborators from other departments and institutions. Work of a research assistant includes collecting, analyzing, and coding data; carrying out literature searches and reviews; and writing reports and case studies.

Graduate Assistantship (GA) - Graduate assistants receive remuneration for engagement in research and/or field development oriented projects that contribute to their academic and professional development.

We offer our MA CSE students the opportunity to carry out a 72-hour research internship. Designed for students seeking an intensive research experience, four options were made available and arranged with individual supervisors, depending on the nature of the research project. Research internship record forms are placed in the student's file and can be used in his or her portfolio upon successful completion of the internship.

Recent MA CSE graduates Kadria Simons, Sue Anderson, and Nathalie Rothschild are featured on OISE's website banners during Education Week, May 7-11, 2012, for their ongoing commitment to research.
