Research Internship
In response to requests by MA CSE students, we are offering students an opportunity to carry out a 72-hour research internship. The research internship is intended for students who are seeking an intensive research experience. There are four options for carrying out the research internship and the choice of option will be arranged with the supervisor. Supervisors may require one option over the others, depending on the nature of the research project. A research internship record form will be placed in your file upon successful completion of the research internship. You may use this record for your portfolio.
• Option 1: As a fifth 72-hour block during Intersession (May/June) after all four Year 1 teaching blocks are complete
• Option 2: 72 hours in lieu of Teaching Block 3 or 4. In this case, a fifth block will be mandatory to complete all four teaching practica. A minimum of one month’s notice must be given to the Practicum Coordinator for Option 2
• Option 3: 72 hours spread out over the first year of the MA CSE program in addition to the four regular teaching placements (as examples: 3 hours/week for 24 weeks or 6 hours/week for 12 weeks)
• Option 4: 72 hours spread out over the second year of the MA CSE program in addition to the internship (i.e. best to be carried out in academic term)
Students who pursue the research internship opportunity will seek a supervisor from among faculty and lab school teachers who post research internship positions.
In addition to or in conjunction with (or instead of) the research internship, some students may opt to complete an independent study course as an elective (HDP2252H) and/or a QRP (qualifying research paper). The independent study course and the QRP will be supervised by a faculty member. The research internship can be designed to support both of these. That is, during the research internship students will be engaged directly in research that ties to their independent study and/or QRP.
Please check the postings and contact the supervisor for the desired project if you are interested in this research opportunity.
