Obtaining a Criminal Record Check

Students participating in practicum placements in Ontario schools are required to complete a Full Disclosure Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check prior to having direct contact with the students; without this in place you will not be allowed to participate in placements. IT IS CRITICAL TO APPLY FOR THE CHECK IN THE SPRING EACH YEAR SO THAT IT WILL BE PROCESSED BY THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, particularly for those who live in Toronto where checks take longer to process. Even "Winterns" should have a check in place by late August since all Year-2s are in classrooms the week after Labour Day.

Specific instructions on how to obtain your Criminal Record Check will be communicated to all students each year in the spring.

Further Graduate Studies

If you are interested in pursuing further graduate studies, you may wish to complete a Qualifying Research Paper (QRP).

QRP Info

*Note that PhD programs considering your application generally like to see both a completed research methods course and a stats course. However, it is not always logistically possible to take both of these electives during your time in the program. Make Research Methods the priority. Be aware, though, that each PhD program is different. You may be required to take an additional statistics course on top of the other courses that make up your doctoral program when the time comes. It’s generally possible to do so in the summer prior to entering the doctoral program or to take the stats course concurrently.
