Academic Advising

One the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month students have access to an on-site academic counselor who can offer academic advice, support and referrals to other services available to students to help them succeed. This service is offered in partnership with First Nations House/UT. To schedule and appointment contact Shannon.Simpson@utoronto.ca.

OISE Elder

Students, faculty and staff wishing to speak with our traditional Aboriginal Elder, Cat Criger, can do so on the last Wednesday of Every month in OISE Room 7-191. Cat has been working as a Traditional Teacher and Healer for more than 16 years in the Native and multi-cultural community in Canada, the USA, England and Wales. He was taught in the old way, working for many years with the guidance of an Aniishnawbe Elder (Zaawawagaabo) and other First Nations Elders, and was taught to do traditional ceremonies, teachings, circles, one to one work and to help all people to 'walk in a good way' though life. To schedule an appointment contact Cat directly at Cat.Criger@utoronto.ca.

Business & Networking Meetings

Every month the IEN holds informal meetings as a way for Indigenous and non-Indigenous students and community members to get to know one another, establish relationships and friendships and stay up-to-date on events that are taking place at the IEN, at OISE and across the U of T campus. The dates for our 2012-2013 IEN meeting are available here.

Student Lounge

The Gitchi Manitou student lounge, located on the 7th floor, is a quiet place for students to work, relax, and interact with other IEN members. A computer is available to students to access the Internet, check email, etc., and print assignments.

Guest Lecture Series

The IEN often invites notable leaders and mentors, such as Dr. Taiaiake Alfred, former NFL football star Alvin Powell, and Dr. Marie Battiste to OISE.

Student Gatherings

Drum making workshops, movie nights, and student and community socials are all regular events the IEN holds in order to foster a sense of community among students, faculty, staff and community members.
