SP2: Halton/Dufferin-Peel, 2012-2013
Cohort Description
Working in partnership with the Halton and Dufferin-Peel school boards, SP2 provides teacher candidates with the opportunity to study and teach in schools in these areas. SP 2 candidates will take their foundation courses at *Garth Webb Secondary School each week. In addition to normal classroom activities, teacher candidates will have opportunities to investigate and participate in school-based events, co-curricular activities, professional development initiatives, and guidance and career education programs.

Program/Curriculum
Teacher candidates take their foundation courses - Teacher Education Seminar, School and Society, Psychological Foundations - at Garth Webb Secondary School each week. Core program topics will include professionalism, school reform, school law, assessment and evaluation, special education and equity. The Curriculum & Instruction, and the Related Studies courses are held at OISE.
Field Based Experiences
Garth Webb Secondary School is a newly-built school in Halton region (opening in September 2012) and will become the learning community in which students in this cohort will be immersed. Teacher candidates will have opportunities to spend additional hours during the week at Garth Webb Secondary School observing classes and participating in school-based experiences and initiatives.
Opportunities to visit other schools in the region for special events and professional development are provided.
