Secondary Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Program
Intermediate/Senior
The Secondary Initial Teacher Education Program at OISE focuses on ways to create and strengthen a foundation for professional learning for our teacher candidates that responds to the increasingly complex, challenging work of teaching. Recently, we have highlighted teaching for deep understanding or, as we prefer, teaching for depth, to provide a strong professional foundation for our graduates. Such a focus encourages the use of the latest research and the most effective classroom practices in the design of the program.
Instructors in the Secondary Program are exemplary teachers who bring a wealth of varied and rich experiences to our candidates. Many have been recognized by their school districts or other organizations as consummate practitioners with outstanding teaching skill and expertise. The Secondary Program values and continues to make the development of strong school-university partnerships a priority.
The current Secondary Program at OISE is large and complex, admitting over 700 full-time teacher candidates annually. All teacher candidates complete seven core course components and are linked to one of several Secondary Program (SP) cohorts. Teacher candidates enrolled in Technological Education may take their program in one of two ways, the Regular Fall/Winter Program or the Technological Education Apprenticeship Program (TEAP).
