Fall/Winter Secondary Program
The secondary initial teacher education program, offered in the Fall/Winter session, is organized into cohorts. Teacher candidates take part of their initial teacher education program in foundational cohort groupings (Teacher Education Seminar, Psychological Foundations of Learning and Development, and School and Society). Technological Education teacher candidates move outside of their SP cohort for their Curriculum and Instruction and Related Studies courses. Candidates of the Technological Education program join their Intermediate/Senior colleagues as part of the Education and Work, SP4, program.
Technological Education Apprenticeship Program (TEAP)
The Technological Education Apprenticeship Program (TEAP) is a multi-session initial teacher education program offered in two summer sessions for Technological Education teacher candidates. TEAP follows the same program of study as the regular initial teacher education program, however the program schedule differs. Academic coursework is split into two compressed modules and that are completed over two consecutive summer sessions, usually running from late June to the end of July.
The Practicum and Internship components are completed in the school year following successful completion of the first summer module. TEAP candidates have the choice of two options to fulfill the Practicum and Internship requirements. One option is to obtain a Long Term Occasional teaching contract in a secondary school in their teaching subject. The second option is to be placed by OISE in partner schools with mentor associate teachers. For either option, formal evaluation of the Practicum and Internship occurs on the same schedule as the Fall/Winter program. TEAP candidates are eligible for a Transitional Certificate of Qualification issued by the Ontario College of Teachers after successful completion of the first summer module.
Transitional Certificate of Qualification
A Transitional Certificate of Qualification enables a TEAP candidate to be eligible to teach in a secondary school on a Long Term Occasional (LTO) contract while enrolled in an initial teacher education program. The Transitional Certificate of Qualification is issued by the Ontario College of Teachers after an eligible teacher candidate completes the first module of a multi-session teacher education program in Technological Education. A TEAP candidate who holds a Transitional Certificate of Qualification must complete all components of the initial teacher education program to be eligible to receive a Certificate of Qualification from the Ontario College of Teachers.
