Teacher candidates in the Elementary Program are organized into cohorts of 65 - 70 members, called options. These options provide a smaller collaborative and collegial learning community that models and facilitates shared professional learning and support. Candidates in each option take the majority of their courses with their option group from a designated team of instructors. The cohort or "option" model offers the teacher candidates a cohesive and integrated program as faculty work as a team to design a program that reflects the interconnectedness of the courses, including the practicum. Although all cohorts offer the same course components, based upon unique combinations of faculty teams and partnership schools, each option offers some areas of focus, e.g. urban education, instructional intelligence, emphasis on literacy, etc.
