2007-08 Collaborative Project

In 2007, three key areas of concern/challenge were identified by the Directors in the four partner GTA Boards in the Learning Consortium:

  • Secondary Teaching and Learning;
  • Equity for English Language Learners; and,
  • Early Literacy Development in the home, school, and community.

The intent of the 2007-08 project was to jointly review and discuss practices and initiatives underway in each district, and to understand each other’s context and best practices related to the topics. Five OISE professors and their grad students indicated their interest in leading a “critical friends” discussion of these issues, and in preparing a report on how the Boards were addressing the topics. The professors involved were: Ben Levin (Secondary Teaching and Learning); Jim Cummins (English Language Learning); and, Janette Pelletier & Carl Corter (Early Literacy Development).

At a symposium at OISE in April, 2008, the professors delivered a brief report to all participants in the project. Click on each Professor's name below to see streaming video clip. You will require the latest version of QuickTime Player to view these videos.
