Academic History

Jean-Paul is Associate Professor of Aboriginal Education and a member of the Dokis First Nation (Anishinaabe).

Research Overview

Dr. Restoule's research interests include:

· Aboriginal cultural identity(ies)
· indigenous research methodologies
· Aboriginal representation, film and media
· intercultural communication
· urbanization
· indigenous knowledge
· environmental education
· anti-racism and decolonizing

Recent Research Projects:

Minobimaatisiiwin: Indigenous knowledge, Sustainability and Aboriginal People in Toronto. Co-investigator with Deb McGregor (P.I.), Daniel Justice, Alex McKay and Keren Rice.

HIV Risks, Systemic Inequities, and Aboriginal Youth: Widening the Circle for Prevention Programming. Co-investigator with June Larkin (P.I.), Michelle Dagnino, Sarah Flicker, Ruth Koleszar-Green, Claudia Mitchell, and Susan Mintz.

Male Aboriginal Identity Formation in Urban Areas: A Focus on Process and Context.

Bringing Minobimaatisiwin into the nursing academy: Envisioning effective mental health nurse practitioner programming. Co-investigator with Eileen Antone (PI), Rebecca Hagey, and others.

Aboriginal post-secondary education participation. Primary investigator.

Traditional Anishinaabek Teachings for Aboriginal Research. Primary Investigator.
