SSHRC-Canada Graduate Scholarship-Masters (2011-2012)

The University Toronto has received information regarding the SSHRC 2012-2012 Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) Master’s Scholarship competition in Humanities and Social Sciences. The objective of this program is to develop research skills and assist in the training of highly-qualified academic personnel by supporting students in the social sciences and humanities who have demonstrated academic excellence and research potential.
SSHRC CGS-M Scholarships are valued at $17,500/yr and are open to applicants who will be registered as full-time students in a master's or combined undergraduate/graduate program, or in the first or second year of a combined MA/PhD program. Students who are or will be registered as a direct entry doctoral candidate, may only apply to the Doctoral Awards Program.
The full program description, application form and instructions are now available on the SSHRC website. Students may only apply to one council (SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR) in a given year. Students may not apply for both SSHRC CGSM and SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships in the same year. However, students are permitted to apply to OGS in the same year.

Scholarship opportunity available to Masters and Doctoral students in Disability Policy
Application Deadline: October 15, 2010
As part of the Canadian Disability Policy Alliance, a Community-University Research Alliance (funded by Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council), 25 scholarships will be awarded over the next five years. There are opportunities in 2010-11 for both Masters and PhD students. Masters students will be funded for $5,000 for one year, and PhD students for $10,000 for each of two years. The Disability Policy Alliance will address four major policy areas.

Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS)

Ontario Graduate Scholarships are available to students with a high level of academic achievement. International students are eligible for this scholarship. Value of OGS: $15,000 - for 3 consecutive terms. OGS awards are not automatically renewed. You must submit a new application each year (12-month period). Detailed information such as eligibility and terms and conditions of the award, and the application form can be obtained from the OGS website.
Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Doctoral Fellowship (SSHRC)

Awards offered by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada are available to Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada living in the country at the time of application. The value of an SSHRC is $20,000 per annum for up to the first four years of study. Students who do not receive an SSHRC in their first year may reapply and are eligible to get an SSHRC up to their first four years of study. Students who receive a SSHRC in their first year of study will receive it for their first 4 years of study. Students who receive a SSHRC in their second year of study will receive it for 3 years of study… etc. Students who receive a SSHRC do not have to reapply. Students who apply for SSHRC are strongly encouraged to apply for OGS as well. Doctoral Completion Award 2010-2011

Please note that this is a new competitive award; the competition will be adjudicated by the SGS Awards Committee in November for the 2010-2011 academic year. Subsequent competitions will be held in the spring for each upcoming academic year. The application form is available on the SGS website. The completed form must be submitted to TPS. For this year only, students may apply for both the Doctoral Completion Award and the Doctoral Thesis Completion Grant.

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) 2011-12

The Vanier CGS program aims to attract and retain world-class doctoral students by supporting students who demonstrate both leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health.
Canadian and international students are eligible to be nominated for a Vanier CGS. In an effort to support students in broadening their research horizons and seeking new challenges, the Vanier CGS program strongly encourages candidates to pursue their studies beyond the university that granted their undergraduate and graduate degrees. Students wishing to apply for a Vanier CGS must do so through the Canadian university to which they are applying for doctoral studies. The Vanier CGS Scholarships are valued at $50,000 per annum and International students are eligible.
Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements for NSERC, SSHRC & CIHR CGS Award holders
Fall Application Deadline: September 24, 2010
The Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement provides financial support to current Canada Graduate Scholarship recipients to study abroad for a portion of their study program. Eligible Canada Graduate Scholarship recipients may receive up to $6,000 for travel and accommodation to any eligible foreign university or research institution in the world.
Eligible Students must submit their completed application directly to the Graduate Awards Office by 4:00 pm.
2010 UTFA Al Miller Graduate Tuition Award

The School of Graduate Studies is now accepting applications for the 2010 UTFA Al Miller Graduate Tuition Award. Candidates must: be a Canadian citizen, or a Permanent Resident; be registered full-time within a graduate program; and demonstrate their financial need within their application.
IDRC Doctoral Research Awards
Since 1982, IDRC has assisted Canadian graduate students to undertake their thesis research in the field of international development. IDRC Doctoral Research Awards are intended to promote the growth of Canadian and developing-country capacity in research on sustainable and equitable development from an international perspective.
In principle, IDRC supports research on all parts of the developing regions of the world. At this time, Fellowships and Awards is not supporting awards which involve research in Burma, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Eastern Europe or Central Asia.
Connaught International Scholarships for Doctoral Students
The new Connaught International Scholarships for Doctoral Students will be comparable to the Tri-Agency Canada Graduate Scholarships, with an effective value of $35,000 per annum. For newlyadmitted international students entering the funded cohort in a doctoral program, the Connaught Fund will provide the difference between the international tuition fee and the domestic tuition fee, and will “top-up” the additional funding to bring it to $35,000 from $15,000 or the normalminimum in the graduate unit, whichever is the larger. Each Scholarship will continue in the same form throughout the normal period in the funded cohort (4 or 5 years).
