Collaborative Program in Educational Policy [NEW!]
The Collaborative Program in Educational Policy (CEPP) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto serves students interested in educational policy development and implementation, with particular emphasis on improving educational process. CEPP provides students with exposure to cross-field and cross-disciplinary approaches to educational problem framing and problem solving to broaden the possibilities for innovative and effective policy analysis.

Professor Emerita Cicely Watson
At the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the International Society for Education Planning Washington, DC Oct 6-9, 2010, Emerita Professor Cicely Watson was honoured as one of the founding members of the organization. Under the heading “Scholarly and Professional Activities” her vita for 1970-1980 reads Member of the ISEP Board, 1971-73; Vice President and President Elect 1974-75, President 1976-77. Founding Editor of the quarterly journal (editor for its first four years) Educational Planning, Vol 1, no. 1, May 1974- Vol. 4, no. 1 May 1978. She was honoured for her contribution to the society as its fifth President (1978-79). And, for her outstanding contribution to the academic field of planning, she was presented with the beautiful Chinese scroll which hangs on the wall near her office in the TPS Department.
In her acceptance speech Cicely paid tribute to the faculty and research staff of the OISE Department of Educational Planning (1965-1983) acknowledging their contributions to the developing academic field and to planned change in Ontario Canada, in that period. Read more....
Professor Jane Knight
Jane Knight, adjunct professor in Higher Education, has received two signal honors most recently. They are: An Honorary LLD from Exeter University, and EAIR award for Outstanding Contribution to Higher Education Research, Policy and Practice from the European Association for Institutional Research.
Professor Creso Creso Sá
Professor Creso Sá has been elected as a new member of the Board of Governors of the Consortium of Higher Edcuation researchers (CHER). An Europe-based organization, CHER organizes the main international conference in the field of higher education outside of North America. The election took place at the annual conference in Oslo, last June.

Comparative & International Education Society new Fellow
Theory and Policy Studies professor Ruth Hayhoe has been named Honorary Fellow by the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) at its recent meeting in Chicago. The award, which will be given at the Awards Ceremony at next year's CIES conference in Montreal on May 1-5, recognizes her contribution over many years to research, teaching, and scholarship in the field, and service to the Comparative and International Education Society. Professor Tricia Seifert
Wins Oracle Research Article of the Year from the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA)
Professor Seifert co-authored an article with Ashley Asel and Ernest Pascarella entitled 'The effects of Greek affiliation on college experiences and outcomes: A portrait of complexity' which won the Oracle Research Article of the Year from the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA).Congratulations Professor Seifert!

TOXIC TRESPASS wins an important award!
Professor Goldin Rosenberg is the Executive Producer of the documentary 'Toxic Trespass' which won the award for "Best Health and Safety Documentary" from the Ontario Workers Health and Safety Centre at the Canadian Labour International Film Festival (CLIFF).Our Congratulations go to Dorothy and Director, Barri Cohen!

Yuxin Tu, TPS Higher Education doctoral student, has presented at the EAIR Forum 2010, held in Valencia, Spain, September 1-4, 2010. The paper “Universities and Student Interactions with Society”, by Yuxin Tu and Creso Sá, was awarded the Best Paper Award.
Lydia Boyko Receives George Geis Award for 2010
Lydia Boyko will be awarded the George Geis Award for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis from the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education at the May awards ceremony. Lydia complete an excellent thesis entitled "An Examination of Academic Department Chairs in Canadian Universities".Congratulations Lydia!
Pamela Gravestock Received Chancellor's Award of Excellence
Pamela Gravestock, doctoral candidate in TPS Higher Education, has received a 2010 Chancellor's Award of Excellence in the Emerging Leader category. Serving as Associate Director of the Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation, she works with faculty on a range of teaching and learning issues and initiatives. Her dissertation research focuses on the evaluation of teaching for promotion and tenure in post-secondary institutions.Congratulations Pamela!

Safdar Muhammad
Safdar Muhammad PhD Candidate visits the Gulf States for Data Collection
Safdar Muhammad, a PhD Candidate, Educational Administration Program, TPS, OISE/UT visited Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar and remained in Gulf States for about two months for data collection for his PhD thesis research. His thesis is on “Interorganizational Partnerships: Leadership, Structures, and Processes.
He is using the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) as a case study for his research. The ABEGS is a consortium of seven Gulf States working for the educational administration and development in the region of Arabian Gulf.

Holly Catalfamo and Agostino Menna
Receive Awards from the International Society for Educational Planning
Two of our doctoral graduates received awards for their theses from the International Society for Educational Planning: Holly Seebach Catalfamo and Agostino (Gus) Menna. Holly received the “Distinguished Dissertation Award”, while Gus received an “Honor” for his thesis. These prizes were awarded at the Annual Meeting of the International Society for Educational Planning held in Savannah, Georgia in October 2009. Their thesis titles were:
Holly Seebach Catalfamo (2008). An Examination of Leadership Development within Ontario’s Colleges: Building Personal, Interpersonal, and Organizational Capacity.
Agostino Menna (2008). Quality of Life and Standard of Living: Administrator, Trustee & School Board Values.
Both graduates presented papers on their theses at this conference, which were very well-received. Congratulations Holly and Gus!
