Profile: Hon. Kathleen Wynne, MEd (1995)
Adult Education and Community Development
Kathleen Wynne was elected to the Ontario legislature in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. She was appointed Minister of Transportation in 2010.
She served as Minister of Education for more than three years, leading the government’s efforts to bring smaller classes to the early grades, improve test scores and create more opportunities for high school students to reach their full potential.
Prior to becoming an MPP, she served as a school trustee in Toronto. Building on a lifetime of political activity and a career of service to youth, students and families, Wynne is a knowledgeable and passionate advocate of a strong publicly funded school system.
She has played a major role as an organizer and facilitator, helping school communities grapple with education issues. In 1996, Wynne was instrumental in the organization of Citizens for Local Democracy and the Metro Parent Network, now the Toronto Parent Network.
A mother of three, she served as the president of the Lawrence Park Collegiate Parents Council (1997-2000), the John Wanless Parents Association (1985-89) and on the board of People and Organizations in North Toronto (POINT, 1996- 2000). Wynne holds an MA in linguistics from the University of Toronto (1980) and an MEd in adult education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (1995).
