Higher Education Program

MASTER OF EDUCATION


Health Professional Education

The Higher Education Program offers an M.Ed. program in Higher Education, including an M.Ed. Specializing in Health Professional Education. The programs can be completed on either a full-time or part-time basis. Students in the M.Ed. in Higher Education are required to pursue the M.Ed. Option IV program of study. Option IV is also available in a cohort format. Students in the M.Ed. in Health Profession Education will normally register in the  M.Ed Option IV program of study. Students who entered the M.Ed. Health Professional Education prior to 2011 may wish to transfer from Option I into Option IV. Students who prefer to write the comprehensive exam as part of their program may choose to stay in Option I. The Program Coordinator can provide more information on the M.Ed. in Health Professional Education.

Degree Requirements:

Option IV – M.Ed. in Higher Education (Non-Cohort Format)
a) a half course, TPS1803H - Recurring Issues in Postsecondary Education, plus
b) a half course in research methods approved by the faculty advisor
c) eight half-courses, of which at least three must be in Higher Education

Option IV – M.Ed. in Higher Education Leadership Cohort
This option will be of particular interest to working professionals and postsecondary leaders since it offers the flexibility of a cohort based and compressed format scheduling.
a) a half course, TPS1803H – Recurring Issues in Postsecondary Education
b) a half course in research methods TPS1836H - Critical Analyses of Research in Higher Education
c) five other sequential half courses (cohort based)
d) two elective half courses (non-cohort based)
e) a half course in equity approved by the faculty advisor

Option IV - M.Ed. in Health Professional Education
Ten half-courses in total:
a) a half course, TPS1803H - Recurring Issues in Postsecondary Education
b) six half-courses, of which at least two must be courses in the Health Profession Education Field and two must be courses in general Higher Education (see the OISE Bulletin page 166);
b) a half course in research methods approved by the faculty advisor
c) one half-course, either an elective or a required, must have an equity focus
d) one additional half-course

Option II (M.Ed. in Health Professional Education)
a) a half course, TPS1803H - Recurring Issues in Postsecondary Education, plus
b) a half course in research methods approved by the faculty advisor
c) six half-courses, of which at least two must be courses in the Health Profession Education Field and two must be courses in general Higher Education;
d) a research project (Master’s Research Paper)
