Dr. Katharine Janzen has taught in college and university programs for more than thirty years. She has earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Masters degre in Education Administration, and a Doctor of Education degree in Higher Education all from University of Toronto. She was for more than 10 years the Director, Centre for Professional Development and for the past 5 years, the Associate Vice President Research & Innovation at Canada's largest college, Seneca College.
Katharine regularly teaches Masters of Education students as an Adjunct Professor at Brock University, as an Associate with the University of Toronto/OISE. Curriculum Theory, Design and Development, Teaching/Learning strategies, Organization Development, Education Research, and Leadership and Change in education are her main areas of expertise and research. She has supervised more than 30 students who have successfully completed their master's research projects and theses. Katharine has co-facilitated several year-long leadership academies for health professionals and college faculty, administrators and support staff.
On invitation, Katharine has worked with faculty and administrative staff in Jamaica, the Peoples Republic of China, Morocco and Brazil in the area of curriculum development, competency based education and the integration of technology in education.
Katharine is the recipient of several excellence awards, including the Seneca Employee Excellence Award - Innovation (Faculty) in 1994, the inaugural Doug Light Award for Administrative Excellence - granted by her peers in the Ontario College Administrative Staff Association (representing the 25 Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology in this province) in 1999, and most recently, the Excellence in Leadership Award 2007 - 2008 from the Association of Canadian Community Colleges.
