Mira Gambhir
Instructor
Mira Gambhir is an instructor in the Master of Teaching program atOISE/UT. She teaches the Anti-Discriminatory Education component in
the Primary/Junior program.
As an educator and researcher, Mira Gambhir witnessed new teachers
struggle to create inclusive classrooms for students. A lack of
practical knowledge and skills coupled with unexplored attitudes
towards difference lead to the exclusion of children who were in the
greatest need of safe and supportive learning environments.
Mira has worked in classrooms in Canada, Taiwan and England and has
experience working with marginalized communities. She is a children's
author and curriculum writer. It was after working as an educational
consultant in India, she realized that adults and children of
marginalized groups in regions of the country are facing similar
integration challenges to those in the Ontario urban context. As a
result, she is pursuing her doctorate at the Ontario Institute for
Studies in Education. Her research focuses on how pre-service programs
can better prepare teachers to embrace and understand the diversity
they will encounter in their classrooms and communities.
Her areas of interest include: diversity education; inclusion; teacher
education and development; comparative international education; policy
and program design.
