Junior/Intermediate Specialization
In the Junior/Intermediate certification program, students focus on teaching grades four to ten. They take courses in all curriculum areas (literacy, mathematics, social studies, science, arts), foundations (psychology, special education, history and philosophy of education, legal issues, anti-oppression education), and general teaching methods. In the first year of the program they take one subject specialization course which is also offered for B.Ed. students. Special days devoted to technology are organized.
Students wishing to be certified for the Junior/Intermediate (J/I) division must take one subject specialization course which is offered for B.Ed. students. Please see the Admissions Page for the requirements for each specialization course.
Students preparing to teach in the junior/intermediate division (grades 6-10) take an additional course in one teaching subject. Applicants applying to the J/I specialization must select one subject from the list below:

This one elective course is normally selected from other graduate courses offered at OISE. This course is typically taken in the summer after the first year or the in the second year.

Since the MT is a graduate program, we are part of the University of Toronto School of Graduate Studies. Their mission statement and services/support for students are described below.
The mission of the School of Graduate Studies is to promote excellence in graduate education and research University-wide and ensure consistency and high standards across the divisions. Sharing responsibility for graduate studies with graduate units and divisions, and operating through a system of collegial governance, consultation and decanal leadership, SGS defines and administers university-wide regulations for graduate education.
SGS also provides expertise, advice and information; oversees the design and delivery of programs; organizes reviews and develops performance standards; supports diversity, equity, fairness, and ethical conduct in graduate education; organizes services and financial assistance to graduate students; encourages a close and positive relationship between research and graduate instruction; and represents the cause of graduate education at the University of Toronto in the wider academic and general community.
