Program Vision
From the research on teacher education, we know that exemplary programs are guided by a vision. A vision for a teacher education program must match a vision for teaching in general. In the MT program, we conceptualize a vision as a vast network of ideas, principles, and images touching on both theory and practice. Our vision for teaching includes the following principles:
- Pursuing a broad range of goals
- Selecting and prioritizing objectives, topics, and activities
- Connecting to students' lives
- Engaging students
- Teaching for depth
- Integrating learning
- Building community in the classroom
- Teaching inclusively
- Building a close teacher-student relationship
You must have clear goals, you must know where you're going, and you build your lessons on that. I think that's what adds to my stress because I spend so much time planning my lessons, and planning where I'm going to go. It's not just the day before, with me thinking, "Okay, what am I going to do tomorrow?" I try to link things as much as possible. - -Marisa (third year teacher)
